Research Committee
The mission of the Florida Committee on Trauma Research Committee is to foster a collaborative and productive research environment among Florida trauma centers that advances trauma science and improves the care of injured patients. Through coordination, guidance, and endorsement of multicenter studies, the committee aims to enhance research quality, efficiency, and impact, while promoting equitable participation across trauma centers.
Conducting a Multicenter Trial:
The FCOT Research Committee is accepting proposals for multicenter studies on a rolling basis. Proposals will be reviewed by the Research Committee as they are submitted and will collaborate with investigators to optimize study ideas and maximize the probability of successful study completion. Please note: The FCOT Research Committee is not an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and does not provide regulatory oversight. All proposed research studies must obtain formal IRB review and approval independent of FCOT Research Committee review.

Benefits of Conducting an FCOT Multicenter Trial:
-
Promotion of multicenter studies and enrollment of participating centers through FCOT
-
Guidance on study design, feasibility, and data collection strategies
-
Access to expertise outside your institution (e.g., study design, statistical support, etc.)
-
Assistance with convening a Data Safety and Monitoring Board when required by IRB
Required Documents (after proposal acceptance):
Please note that the following documents are only required after a study proposal has been reviewed and accepted by the FCOT Research Committee.
-
IRB Approval Letter
-
Recruitment Letter
-
Study Protocol
-
Data Collection Tool
-
Data Dictionary
Authorship, Data Governance, and Presentation/Publication Requirements:
-
Only two authors from each institution will be included as authors.
-
The two lead center authors can choose to be listed as first and second authors or first and last author.
-
If a statistician is involved, authorship will be granted to the statistician regardless of their institution.
-
The PI and co-PI from each institution will be listed in order of highest enrollment per center.
-
Authors from institutions enrolling less than 10 patients will be listed in the acknowledgments section of any published manuscript in lieu of being listed as an author.
-
Any authors that do not fit on the author line based on the journal requirements will be listed at the conclusion of the manuscript as members of the “Florida Committee on Trauma Research Committee Study Group on [XXX]”.
-
Data use agreements should allow for bidirectional data exchange upon completion of the study and the primary analysis to allow for secondary analyses.
-
Authorship on secondary analyses will be based on contributions to creation of that manuscript. The entire original investigator list will have the opportunity to review the data/manuscript and be included.
-
Any secondary analyses should have prior approval of the FCOT Research Committee and primary study PI.
-
Any studies accepted for presentation or publication are required to have the words “Florida Committee on Trauma Multicenter Study” in the title or subtitle of the manuscript.
Current Ongoing Studies:
Information on active FCOT multicenter studies will be posted here as studies are approved and initiated.
Joining a Multicenter Study:
Any trauma center in Florida, regardless of verification level, is encouraged to participate. Please reach out directly to the PI of any of the current ongoing studies listed above to learn more.
